How To Have an Egg-Ceptional Easter

Can you believe it? Spring has already sprung and Easter is right around the corner. It’s the time of year when we all start to feel refreshed and are getting excited for what’s to come. What better way to celebrate the holiday and seasons changing than to have some family fun!

Have you ever wondered about the importance of having family traditions? They certainly add meaning and spirit when it comes to the holidays, but they can also benefit us in ways we may not even realize. According to this article by Childhelp, traditions help us bond to those we love. Engaging in activities you enjoy with your family members can help to create a sense of community and belonging within your family. Additionally, and arguably most importantly, family traditions create positive memories for your children. Children crave the warmth and consistency that holiday traditions bring and having these to look forward to can help them better manage their year.

If family traditions are not something you’ve incorporated into your household yet, look no further! Whether you’re into crafts, cooking, games, or gifts – we’ve got you covered. We’ve included a list of both new and old-fashioned Easter traditions that you can start participating in with your family and friends!

Easter Crafts

Dyeing Easter Eggs

We all know it’s not quite Easter without dyeing a few eggs! Whether you’re inherently crafty or you’ve never picked up a paintbrush – this is certainly an activity any family member can participate in. We’ve provided a few different options for coloring your eggs below:

Build a Peeps Birdhouse

If you’re one who gets excited about making gingerbread houses around Christmas, then why not create your own version for Easter! Using graham crackers and frosting, you can build a simple house and place a marshmallow peep inside. Need some inspiration? Check out the link below!

Plant a “Magic” Jelly Bean Garden

This is one the kids will love! It can be done inside or outside depending on the conditions of where you live. The night before Easter, pick a spot in the backyard or grab a small pot and fill it with moss or soil. Place 5-6 jelly beans on top and then when the kids head to bed, replace them with lollipops. This will give the illusion that these “magic” jelly beans grew overnight! If you really want to sell this one, check out the free printable jelly bean packets below!

Easter Gifts & Games

Easter Egg Baskets

There is no better way to start a holiday than waking up to a surprise! Easter baskets are one great way to bring joy to the family and give your kids something to look forward to. One way you can spice things up is by leaving a “trail” where the Easter Bunny came through! We’ve included a few ways to do so below:

  • DIY Bunny Footprints: First decide where you are going to place your Easter basket(s) and what route you would like the Easter Bunny to take. Then, using cardstock you can trace and cut out your own pair of bunny footprints. Lastly, using baby powder, lightly powder your footprints throughout the house. This may seem like a mess at first but it is an easy cleanup and totally worth the look of surprise on your kids’ faces the next morning!
  • Jelly Bean Trail: This is a great option if you’re running low on time but still want to show “proof” that the Easter Bunny came through. Simply place a path of jelly beans leading from the kids’ rooms to their Easter baskets. They will love waking up to this edible trail!
Easter Egg Hunt

Easter egg hunts are something you always see around this time, but why not put a twist on this classic game? Check out how to make these glow-in-the-dark Easter eggs from Lil’ Luna. Now you can schedule this game for any time of day!
